Geotechnical engineering is the part of engineering concerned with the examination, design and construction of foundations, slopes, holding structures, embankments, tunnels, levees, wharves, landfills and different frameworks that are made of or are bolstered by soil or rock. Rock mechanics determines how a particular rock reacts when it is put to the use required by mankind for buildings, roads, bridges, dams, tunnels, and other civil engineering uses.
